Care guide
The melon barb (Haludaria fasciata) is native to the Western Ghats of southern India. It inhabits rivers, streams and other freshwater habitats with varied flow and substrates.
Keep it with peaceful fish of a suitable size, providing planted cover and open swimming space. As a social barb, it is best maintained with conspecifics. Offer a varied diet of small live or frozen invertebrates and prepared foods containing vegetable material.
Males become more colourful during spawning. This species scatters eggs and provides no parental care; protect eggs from the adults if raising fry.
