Description

Seachem Purigen is a macro-porous synthetic polymer for removing organic waste and polishing aquarium water. It captures organics before they break down; it does not directly remove existing ammonia, nitrite or nitrate. Use it alongside biological filtration and water changes. Rinse before use and contain it in a fine mesh bag of 180 microns or less. Place the bag where water flows through it. Seachem rates 250 mL for up to 1,000 L for up to six months; this is a manufacturer rating. Dark-brown or black beads indicate exhaustion. Purigen can be regenerated using Seachem’s complete bleach, dechlorinator and freshwater buffer-soak procedure. Follow its current directions, including the specified bleach concentration. Scented, dyed and splash-less bleach are excluded. Some slime-coat products make regeneration unsuitable. Do not reuse if bleach or chlorine odor remains; if uncertain, test the soak water for residual chlorine. Choose the pack and containment for your filter compartment. Sizes range from 100 mL to 4 L. Store unused wet media with water to prevent drying and cracking.
