Description
Seachem Prime is a concentrated water conditioner labelled for freshwater and saltwater aquariums. Its stated uses include treating chlorine and chloramine when starting an aquarium or adding replacement water. The listed bottle sizes and dose are the manufacturer’s specifications for Prime. The label recommends adding Prime to new water first. If it is added directly to the aquarium, Seachem says to base the dose on aquarium volume. Follow the current instructions for the actual treatment conditions; the normal replacement-water dose should not be transferred to a different dechlorinator. Seachem notes that a sulfur smell is normal. Seachem also claims temporary detoxification of ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. Its FAQ explicitly says Prime does not remove those compounds from the system, and its described binding effect is temporary. Treat that as a manufacturer claim rather than evidence that pollutants are gone or that cycling is complete. Check ammonia-test compatibility when interpreting results after treatment. Seachem describes different effects with Nessler and salicylate methods. Use the relevant test and product instructions, and assess the aquarium’s measurements and biological filtration rather than treating a dose of conditioner as a completed-cycle test.
