Can Ember tetra Live With Neon tetra?

These two ask for the same tank. Embers take 20 to 28 °C and neons 21 to 25, so anywhere from 21 to 25 suits both, and their pH ranges meet at 5 to 7, the soft acidic water each shows its colour in.

Temperament matches as well. The ember is very peaceful and does not compete with boisterous or much larger tankmates, and the neon is peaceful and belongs with similarly sized characins. At 2 cm the ember is the smaller, and neither has any interest in the other.

Keep both in groups of 8 to 10 or more. A base of 45 by 30 cm, about 40 litres, is enough for embers on their own, but two schools want the 60 by 30 cm tank the neons are measured for. Feed small and often: embers are micropredators that take tiny invertebrates and zooplankton in nature, so fine dried food with daphnia, artemia nauplii or microworm suits both.
