Can Cherry Shrimp Live With Dwarf gourami?

The gourami's own profile lists cherry shrimp among the tankmates that can work well in a planted tank, so this is not a pairing to rule out. It is one to set up in the right order.

An adult cherry shrimp is about 3 cm and an 8.8 cm gourami takes small invertebrates; newborn shrimp hatch fully formed at a millimetre or two, which is the size of the live food a gourami is fed. Expect the colony to lose its young. Thick moss and dense planting decide whether it keeps growing anyway.

The water suits both at 22 to 27 °C and pH 6.5 to 7.5, and cherry shrimp need moderate GH and KH to rebuild their shells after each molt, with crushed coral or a mineral supplement if your water is soft. Let the shrimp colony establish in a mature, planted tank for several weeks before the gourami goes in, and keep one fish or a sexed pair rather than a group of males.
