Pogostemon Sampsonii

Pogostemon sampsonii is a compact stem plant from southern China that was long known in the hobby under the wrong labels Limnophila punctata 'Blume' and Pogostemon cf. pumilus, before Christel Kasselmann identified it as this species in 2014. Its narrow, light green leaves grow in tight whorls along upright stems, and it stays relatively short at about 25 cm, which makes it a candidate for the midground of a planted aquarium.

Flowgrow publishes only light and difficulty for it, so the temperature of 22 to 28 °C and pH of 6 to 7.5 here are drawn from its subtropical origin rather than confirmed culture data. It is propagated by cuttings, and trimmed tops root readily when replanted. Medium light and occasional feeding keep it growing evenly, and it does not demand CO₂ injection to look presentable.

Because the species is still uncommon in the trade, most plants pass between hobbyists rather than through shops. Its whorled foliage and short habit make it a useful filler that contrasts with broader-leaved stems.
