Mini Fissidens

Mini Fissidens is sold under a name that is shorthand rather than a species. Fissidens crispulus and F. fontanus are documented plants; the 'Mini' form is not, and no collection site is on record for it. What arrives is a fine moss that builds tight, dark green cushions two centimetres or so tall.

Because nothing authoritative pins the identity down, the figures on this page are editorial rather than sourced. Temperatures of 18 to 25 °C and pH 6 to 7 are reasonable for a tropical moss of this kind, and it is normally tied to wood or stone and then left alone. It is slow, and it wants conditions that do not swing.

The looseness of the name has a practical consequence: a plant bought as Mini Fissidens may well be a different fine moss. Where the identity matters, a confirmed Fissidens fontanus is the safer purchase. Where it does not, this moss still makes a neat, low mat under the same care.
