Brownie Ghost Buce

Bucephalandra sp. 'Brownie Ghost' is one of many named trade forms of the genus, a group of slow-growing epiphytes from Borneo, and it sits in the 'Brownie' series with dark, brownish leaves. What is reliable is the habit. Like the rest of the genus it attaches to wood or stone instead of rooting in substrate, it stays around 8 cm, and it spreads very slowly. For a Bornean rheophyte, 20 to 26 °C and pH 5.5 to 7 are sensible defaults, and division of the rhizome is the way to propagate it.

Its dark, faintly textured leaves make it a good accent against hardscape and green moss. Since the identity of these farm-grown forms has never been formally settled, plants sold under the same name may differ noticeably in leaf shape and colour.
