White Anubias

Anubias barteri var. nana 'White' is a small, slow-growing form of the dwarf Anubias, kept in the aquarium trade for its white or pale variegated leaves. Flowgrow does not document the variegated form under this name; the closest published record is Anubias barteri var. nana, and this entry follows the parent variety. The parent originates from Cameroon, where it grows in the shallow zones of forest rivers with strong current, and Tropica first cultivated the dwarf variety in 1970. The plant is an epiphyte and should be attached to wood or stone. It is famously tough; Flowgrow describes nana as a 'growing plastic plant', almost indestructible under aquarium conditions. Light is not finicky, since it grows in about 0.25 to 1 W per litre, and medium light keeps the leaves compact. The optimum temperature range is 22-26 C, with pH 5-8 and carbonate hardness up to 21 dKH. It grows with or without CO2 injection, and high phosphate levels, around 1.5-2 mg per litre, can trigger flowering. At only 5-10 cm tall it suits nano tanks as a midground plant, or the foreground of larger aquaria. Propagate by cutting the rhizome in two or more pieces, each retaining several leaves. No Flowgrow record documents the variegated form, so this entry is flagged for review: the parameter set is a disclosed assumption taken from the parent variety, not a source confirmation of this specific form.
