Can Coolie loach Live With Almorha loach?

The yoyo loach's own profile names cobitid loaches as possible bottom company, and the kuhli is a cobitid, but the same page carries the warning that decides this: much smaller fishes may be intimidated by the yoyo's size and its sometimes very active behaviour. A 10 cm kuhli is a slender, nocturnal fish sharing the floor with a bulky 16 cm loach that feeds hard and fast, and the kuhli's own profile asks for small, peaceful company while warning that some loaches are excessively competitive.

21 to 26 °C suits both, and the shared pH band is 6 to 6.5, set by the kuhli's preference for soft, acidic water.

If you keep them together, buy both in groups, five or six kuhlis and at least five or six yoyos, since a yoyo kept alone or in a trio takes its frustration out on whatever else is on the floor. Use fine sand, and give the kuhlis their own narrow hiding places among roots, caves and leaf litter that the larger loaches cannot occupy. Feed sinking food generously and after lights out when the kuhlis forage, because a group of yoyos clears a wafer long before a kuhli reaches it. The yoyos want a long tank, measured at 243 litres for a group, which is the figure to plan around. Kuhlis that stop emerging to feed, or that thin out over a few weeks, mean the arrangement is not working.
