Can Amano Shrimp Live With Siamese fighting fish?

Amano shrimp reach 4 to 5 cm, noticeably larger than a cherry shrimp, and only fish big enough to eat them are a real threat. That makes them a more realistic betta companion than the smaller dwarf shrimp. They graze almost constantly on soft algae and biofilm on plants, wood and substrate, which is the job they were popularised for in planted tanks.

The water fits at 22 to 28 °C and pH 6.5 to 7.5. Amanos also do not breed in freshwater: the larvae need brackish or salt water to develop, so there is no stream of tiny young in the tank for a betta to pick off.

Two cautions remain. The ornamental betta is best kept alone, and tolerance of tankmates is the exception, so watch how your fish reacts. And shrimp are extremely sensitive to copper, so check that any medication you might use on the betta is safe for invertebrates.
