Graminifolia Bladderwort

Utricularia graminifolia produces narrow green leaves and creeping growth that can form a grass-like foreground mat. It is an Asian bladderwort with small traps that capture microscopic organisms. That adaptation to nutrient-poor habitats does not mean an aquarium carpet must be starved, or that a rich substrate is a universal requirement.

Treat it as a demanding carpet plant whose establishment requires patience. Provide medium to strong light and pH 4.5–7.5. Stable added CO₂ is recommended for the intended carpet use. Avoid abrupt changes while it establishes, and judge progress by new spreading growth rather than expecting a finished lawn immediately after planting.

Plant small portions in the foreground with room for runners to spread. Maintain a balanced nutrient supply, and watch for algae or accumulated debris that can smother the young growth. Once established, divide rooted sections or separate daughter growth to expand the patch. Trim according to the mat's condition and thickness; a fixed weekly cutting height is not a substitute for observing the plant.
