Description
The green tiger lotus is the green leaved form of Nymphaea lotus, sold beside the red form. It is a tuber rooting plant that sends up submerged leaves first and then floating leaves, which spread flat across the surface once the plant is settled and shade whatever grows beneath them.
Give it the back or middle of a larger tank, since a mature rosette takes real space. Growth is fast and the plant is rated medium in difficulty. The optimum is 22 to 28 °C inside a tolerance of 15 to 30, pH 5 to 8, carbonate hardness 2 to 14 dKH, and light medium to high. Carbon dioxide is listed at 10 to 40 mg/l.
It is frequently available both in shops and from other aquarists, which is a consequence of how it multiplies: the tuber puts out runners with young plants attached, and it can also be raised from seed. Separate a runner once the young plant has leaves of its own.
