Description
Super Red is an aquarium trade name for a red-leaved Ludwigia. It also travels as Ludwigia sp. 'Red' and 'Mini Super Red', and sits next to the older Ludwigia 'Rubin'. The colour is not automatic. Provide adequate light and balanced nutrition.
Stems run 20 to 50 cm tall and only 4 to 7 cm wide, with paired leaves and a habit that branches readily, so a few stems become a block of colour in a season. That narrow width is what makes it usable in nano tanks and in the vertical rows of a Dutch style layout as well as in a midground or background group.
Care is rated easy and growth is fast. It takes 18 to 28 °C, pH 5 to 7.5 and carbonate hardness from 0 to 14 dKH, with medium to high light and carbon dioxide listed at 20 to 40 mg/l. Propagation is by cuttings: take the top of a stem, replant it, and the remainder branches below the cut. It grows emersed as well.
