Hudoroi

Cryptocoryne hudoroi is a water trumpet from the south of Borneo that stays scarce in trade even though it has been imported since the 1990s. It grows in limestone areas where it forms dense submersed populations in fast-flowing rivers, and when the water drops it keeps growing emersed on the exposed banks. In the tank it is a rosette plant with narrow, strongly bullous olive-green leaves, and Flowgrow puts its height at roughly 20 to 50 cm.

Its leaf shape recalls the larger Cryptocoryne aponogetifolia and C. usteriana, but on a smaller scale, and it is described as relatively easy to care for. Flowgrow gives a temperature range of 25 to 29 °C and a pH of 5 to 7.5. It settles in as a slow to medium-growing crypt that does not demand CO₂ injection, though a nutrient-rich substrate helps it establish, and it is less prone to the melt that marks some relatives.

Because it reproduces by runners, several rosettes gradually form a small group. It suits the midground of soft-water tanks where a leafy, distinctly-textured crypt is wanted, and it rewards patience more than attention.
