Kedagang Buce

Kedagang is a slow-growing Bucephalandra traded for its narrow, textured leaves and use on foreground or midground hardscape. It originates from Borneo. It has dark-green leaves with pale dots and reddish rhizomes; underwater leaves may show blue metallic reflections. A red rhizome should not be confused with a guarantee of uniformly red leaves.

Attach the plant to wood or stone with its creeping rhizome exposed. Low to moderate light can support this type of planting; avoid increasing light simply to force a particular colour. The published care range is 20 to 26 °C and pH 5 to 7. Added CO₂ and a balanced nutrient supply can assist growth, but the plant remains a slow grower. Allow space for its rhizome to extend rather than assuming it will permanently fit a small crevice.

Divide a healthy rhizome to propagate, retaining leaves and growing points on each section. Position the pieces where they can stay while their roots attach. Judge establishment by healthy new growth, and remove deteriorating leaves as needed. Colour and size are variable outcomes of the plant and its conditions, not promises attached to its trade name.
