Description

Mini Bolbitis is the dwarf form of Bolbitis heteroclita, and the match on Flowgrow is the fern's own taxonomy: the page for Bolbitis heteroclita 'Difformis' explicitly describes this tiny plant as the form sold as mini Bolbitis. Some other small ferns from the family Hymenophyllaceae are also offered under the same trade name, so the link between the card and the source is close but worth a caveat. The fern grows well emersed on moderately moist soil, forming a low carpet of delicate, parsley-like pinnate leaves up to about 7 cm, while the submersed form stays distinctly smaller and grows extremely slowly. It thrives in 23 to 28 °C with pH 5 to 7.5, prefers low to moderate light, and is often attached to lava rock. Growth is by splitting the rhizome. A striking plant for warm terraria, paludaria and nano tanks, it rewards a settled spot with years of slow, neat growth rather than demanding to be a fast-growing filler.
