Description

Bolbitis difformis is a trade name applied to the Philippine fern Bolbitis heteroclita 'Difformis'; Flowgrow carries the plant under the heteroclita species name and lists 'Bolbitis difformis' among its trader names, alongside the older synonym Edanyoa difformis and the grower's name Bolbitis sp. 'Baby leaf'. The fern is native to the area around Lake Balinsasayao on Negros island. Submersed it is a very slow-growing plant of finely divided pinnate leaves, an epiphyte best attached to rock or driftwood, where its creeping rhizome binds over time. Flowgrow does not publish a height for it, but as with other Bolbitis forms the submersed plant stays low and compact. It is a foreground plant for tanks and paludaria rather than a fast filler, and it can also be propagated from the small plantlets that form on its leaves, or by dividing the rhizome. A moderate CO2 supply is optional; it does best in temperatures of 23 to 28 °C with a pH of 5 to 7.5 under low to moderate light.
