Description

A heater guard is a cover around a submersible heater that provides a physical barrier and helps protect the heater from accidental contact or breakage. It can be part of the heater's own design or a separate sleeve fitted around a compatible heater. A guard is distinct from an electronic shut-off: Fluval's T-Series, for example, has both a guard and a separate function that cuts heater power when water is absent. Replacement guards for a named heater and adjustable sleeves for round heaters are different choices. Use the matching replacement where the heater requires its own guard; Fluval's E-Series instructions require the guard during operation. For a separate sleeve, check the heater's shape, length, clearance and mounting arrangement against the exact guard variant. The Fdit #3 example below has modular sections and suction-cup mounting, with stated external dimensions of approximately 36.5 x 3.1 x 4 cm. Those external measurements do not specify the inside clearance or establish a fit for every round heater. Keep the heater's required water circulation and immersion conditions in mind when fitting a guard. Fluval's E-Series instructions require adequate circulation and regular removal of deposits from the guard openings. For that heater, disconnect power and let it cool before removal or maintenance, then refit the guard before use. Follow the corresponding heater's instructions rather than assuming a separate cover changes its operating requirements.
