Description
Furan-2 refers to a named fish medication rather than a verified formula for every similarly named powder. The archived API FURAN-2 packet label in DailyMed identifies nitrofurazone and lists bacterial fish-disease uses. Check the manufacturer, formulation and label of the product actually in hand. The inspected API label is dated December 2021 and identifies 85 mg nitrofurazone in a two-gram packet. This is an identity check on that packet version, not a current availability claim or a dose for other nitrofuran products. Its aquarium label excludes fish intended for human consumption. The API label warns that antibiotic treatment can inhibit biological filtration. Check the actual treatment directions and monitor the aquarium accordingly. Frayed fins, sores or cloudy eyes should not by themselves select an antibiotic; bacterial diagnosis and susceptibility information help determine an appropriate treatment.
