Fish net

Description

An aquarium fish net is used to catch fish for transfer and to lift loose material from the water. Fine nets can also collect floating plant fragments during maintenance. Choose a net for the fish or material being collected and for the space available in the aquarium. Common designs include fine- and coarse-mesh nylon nets, soft-mesh nets with a deeper pocket, and fixed or telescopic handles. Compare the frame opening, pocket depth and handle reach separately. The opening needs room for the intended fish while remaining usable around the layout; a deeper pocket and an adjustable handle provide different handling options. Fine mesh and soft fabric are features to assess for the intended fish, rather than a guarantee that every species can be netted safely. Check the fish’s body features before choosing a capture method. Spines, barbs and hooks around the gills can snag in netting. For these fish, consider a suitable fish trap or handling container instead of relying on finer mesh to prevent entanglement. Keep quarantine nets separate from those used in the display aquarium. After quarantine, disinfect the equipment and store it dry according to the quarantine procedure. Rinse a net used in saltwater thoroughly with clear water after use.
