Dechlorinator

Description

An aquarium dechlorinator treats disinfectants in replacement tap water. Check whether the water supply uses chlorine or chloramine and whether the chosen aquarium product addresses it. API Tap Water Conditioner is one example labelled for both freshwater and saltwater use. Dose by the actual bottle concentration and the treatment required. API’s directions distinguish its chlorine dose from its chloramine dose, while Seachem Prime has a different concentration and instructions. A capful or a dose from another brand cannot be assumed to treat the same volume. Follow the selected product’s mixing directions when preparing replacement water. Prime recommends adding it to new water first and uses aquarium volume as the dose basis if it is added directly to the tank. Claims about ammonia binding or other additional functions belong to the named product; dechlorination does not establish that biological filtration is ready.
