DC return pump

Description

A DC return pump moves water from a filtration compartment or sump back to the aquarium. Its water path connects the filtration system to the display; it differs from an in-tank circulation pump whose outlet moves water within the display. Controllable models let you set pump output through a supplied controller. Select for the flow needed at the installed head, using the manufacturer’s performance chart. Height difference, pipe length, fittings and pipe diameter affect the result. Maximum flow and maximum lift describe different ends of a pump’s performance range; they are not a promise that both occur together. Check fittings, pump dimensions and the permitted installation mode. SICCE Syncra SDC, for example, supports submerged or inline use with a wet impeller, but is not self-priming when installed externally. Its instructions require appropriate pipe sizes and warn against a fully closed outlet. Follow the selected model’s setup limits. Place the controller and power supply as directed, protected from water, and leave access to the pump for maintenance. Use the specified adaptor and keep the pump supplied with water. Disconnect power before servicing, and clean the rotor and inlet as its instructions require. Feed modes, apps and backup power compatibility are model-specific features.
