Cichlid spawning cone

Description

A spawning cone offers a surface for fish that lay adhesive eggs on an exposed substrate. Discus are one intended group for cone products. Choose according to the species’ breeding behaviour; a cone is not a substitute for the different spawning sites used by all cichlids. Compare the surface, shape and stability. Tropical’s Kegel is a plastic discus cone with a slightly textured surface, while Penn-Plax lists a ceramic breeding cone. Material and dimensions are properties of the selected product, and should not be inferred from the general category name. Position the cone so the pair can reach the spawning surface and follow its preparation and cleaning instructions. Tropical specifies hot-water preparation for its own product; that should not be extended to every plastic cone. If the breeding plan requires moving eggs, check how to move the chosen cone without treating experimental spawning times as a general procedure.
