Description

An aquarium airline check valve passes air towards an air-driven filter or air stone and is intended to stop aquarium water siphoning back towards the pump when airflow stops. The compact inline valves covered here fit between two lengths of airline. Their function is reverse-flow protection; use an air-control valve when you need to adjust the amount of air. Choose a valve specified for the equipment and tubing being connected. The Pawfly plastic example takes 3/16 inch inside-diameter airline and is expressly intended for ordinary aquarium air pumps, excluding CO2 and other high-pressure systems. Its compatibility does not extend to a pressurised CO2 line merely because the hose fits. Install the valve with the permitted flow direction from pump to aquarium. Keep it outside the water near the tank rim, with clean, square-cut tubing ends firmly attached, and check for hardened or loose tubing. Reversed installation can stop the air supply. Follow the pump maker's mounting instructions as well: EHEIM's air pump 100/200/400 instructions require an external position above water level, secured so the pump cannot fall into the tank.
