Plant and shrimp aquarium substrates provide a bed for roots and aquascaping. Aqueon Plant and Shrimp Aquarium Substrate is a clay-based freshwater example whose spherical granules are designed to maintain their shape. Its listed five-pound pack belongs to that named product. The manufacturer describes use with freshwater plants, shrimp, snails and tropical fish. It does not establish a Caridina-specific pH or hardness target. A “shrimp substrate” or “aqua soil” category name should not by itself be taken as a buffering specification. Choose the substrate together with the intended animals and water preparation. Check the actual product directions and monitor the aquarium rather than assuming the behaviour of another brand’s active soil. This Aqueon example’s clay construction and plant support do not supply a universal pH-lowering claim.
