Description

An aquarium support mat sits between the tank and its supporting surface where the tank manufacturer specifies one. Its purpose is limited cushioning at that interface: ADA describes its Garden Mat as absorbing vibration and buffering slight surface distortion beneath a Cube Garden. A mat does not remove the requirement for an appropriate, level support. UNS specifies both a protective mat and a level, debris-free installation surface for its rimless aquariums. Check the aquarium's base construction and installation instructions before choosing a mat. Some tanks are designed to use one, while JUWEL explicitly prohibits adding a mat beneath its safety-base-frame aquariums. Do not add padding solely because it is marketed as a leveling or anti-vibration mat. For a tank that requires a mat, select the footprint and thickness specified for that aquarium. Products include cut-to-size sheets and mats sized for particular tanks; adhesive-backed and non-adhesive sheets are both available. Thickness is model-specific: ADA lists a 5 mm Garden Mat for its 60 x 30 cm footprint and an 8 mm version for 90 x 45 cm. ADA supplies the mat slightly oversized and instructs users to trim it before installation. These are product-specific examples, not a universal thickness rule.
