The compactON 1000 sits near the small end of Eheim's nine-model utility pump range, and its useful trait is adjustable flow: 400 to 1000 litres per hour from one 15-watt motor, so it can be dialled down at the pump rather than throttled with a valve downstream. Maximum head is 1.4 m, the suction-side hose fitting is 16 mm, and the body measures 47 x 73 x 79 mm on a 2 m lead - small enough to hide behind hardscape or to sit in a sump return chamber. Eheim rates it for fresh and marine water alike, specifies materials chosen not to release toxins into the water, and gives the range a three-year manufacturer guarantee. Against the older compact and compact+ pumps it replaces, power consumption across the series is down by up to 50 percent. Two limits are worth reading before buying. The ceramic axis and ceramic-capped impeller that give this range its quiet reputation are fitted to the compactON 2100 and above, not to the 1000 - the smaller models use the standard bearing, so this is a quiet pump rather than a silent one. And out-of-water use is sanctioned only from the 2100 series upward; the 1000 is submersible only. Mounting is by suction cup, with a suction basket and a threaded coupling supplied in the box.
