Can Convict cichlid Live With Jack Dempsey?

This is close to the exact company the convict cichlid's own profile allows: in a large enough tank, a community of robust Central American cichlids, and the Jack Dempsey is exactly that. The Jack Dempsey's side carries its own warning, since a bonded pair stays hostile to other cichlids of similar shape, and a convict is a fish of that same general build.

Size favours the convict for once, since even a mature Jack Dempsey at 20 cm is not enough bigger than a 15 cm convict to read as safe from its temper. Use a tank at the Jack Dempsey's own 243 litre minimum or larger, break the floor into separate territories with rock piles and driftwood, and expect to referee: two substrate spawning cichlids from the same region will both want the same flat rock once breeding starts.
